A Very Wise Woman Bearing Gifts

My wife has just returned from the supermarket and has set down before me:

Bovril
Marmite
Vegemite
and
Patum Peperium, The Gentleman's Relish

Beats the hell out of that gold, frankincense and myrrh muck.

Very aware at this time of year that manger is the French word for to eat, till the next time,

Your salty old pal,

Fred

  2. Here in our little part of Austria we still call the place you put the animals' food the "mange-ois". This, like the typical nickname for the germanic name Georg -- which is 'Shoze' (I'm spelling it as it sounds in English) -- is a leftover from Napoleon's visit. Happened just yesterday it seems.

Vegemite and walnuts on whitebread was one of my childhood loves -- my mother being Australian we always went the vegemite route. Why all three? A taste test? I don't know Patum Peperium -- I suppose because I'm not a gentleman.

Love this site Freddie, thanks for the cuppa, I am warmed, as always.
